Welcome to this edition of my web newsletter June 2026  written as we swelter under record breaking May temperatures  and very much hoping they will soon end!

 In the liturgical year we now enter Ordinary Time  and return to the Gospel  according to Matthew. In our parishes this is a time of new entrants to the Sacraments. Perhaps also it is a time to  celebrate the anniversaries  of those  we welcomed to the Sacraments in 2025.

 

For summer reading,  Pope Leo X1V presents encyclical  "Magnifica Humanitas" as the Church’s response to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence

 

Do please participate in replying to the 2 questions set out below, and the replies of which will  be included in the NBCW annual report to Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales.

Open Call: inviting artists, graphic designers and illustrators from across the UK.

From cover to cover, we are celebrating the Bible. In 73 books – from Genesis to Revelation – is the greatest story ever told. Our passion is to bring them alive through the medium of art in this unique competition and exhibition.

We invite artists, graphic designers and illustrators from across the UK to design the front covers of any of the 73 books of the Bible. We want to celebrate creativity and innovation and promote a greater visual awareness and understanding of the Bible today. We welcome multiple submissions (up to four), and all selected entries will create the final exhibition.

We offer seven cash prizes with an overall winner decided by our Panel of Judges.
A full colour catalogue of the 73 selected covers will be published.

Our Exhibition runs from 10th February 2027 to 9th April 2027.

Pope Leo XIV presents "Magnifica Humanitas" as the Church’s response to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, calling for AI to be “disarmed” from logics of domination, exclusion and war. Drawing parallels with Rerum Novarum, the Pope urges the global community to place technological progress at the service of human dignity, solidarity and the common good.

      Questions for Catholic Women

The NBCW is asking for responses to two questions in the preparation of the organisation’s annual statement to the Bishop’s Conference.  These questions have been devised by the NBCW members and agreed by Bishop Bosco, our Bishop liaison. There is no right or wrong way on how to do this and all responses are welcome

Topic 1: Synodality 

As the Church enters the implementation phase of the Synod, how are women experiencing the synodal process? 

What role do women see for themselves in fostering a synodal way of being Church? 

Topic 2: Inclusion and Cultural Belonging                                                                  

How can parishes become safe and welcoming spaces where women from different cultures feel able to speak, share their experiences, and be fully themselves within the life of the Church?

  Welcome to this edition of my web newsletter. There’s a lot to talk about as we near the end of the year. Sunday November 30 th   marks the 1 st Sunday of Advent and the start of the new liturgical year of Year A with our Sunday readings from the evangelist Matthew. See below the offer from Society of St Gregory   to access a free resource.   I’ve put together: a mixed bag of Advent resources; a stirring campaign to raise awareness about violence to women; a great pub talk from the Mizen family on 2 nd February etc.   In October I was introduced to a day of Adventurous Accompaniment (more about this in next month’s blog). In a chat with 3 young catholic women I was introduced to the world of Catholic influencers and social media outlets. Sr Joan Chittister OSB    Welcome to this edition of my web newsletter February 2026   First I have to say Farewell to Brishop Richard as he moves on from our diocese to the position of Archbishop of Westminster.   A time of change for us. Meantime the diocese makes no new decisions, but it gives us the time to engage with the many initiatives introduced during Bishop Richard’s time with us.   By the time you read this the first of a new series introduced by the NBCW   which started with the first webinar on 27 th January will have taken place:   Catholic Women Walking with Women .   This is a year long webinar series designed to meet women where they truly are and to explore how God walks with us in every season.   You will see the drive by the NBWC following its new constitution which opens it to membership by individual members.   Febr...
