AUGUST Diocesean Link Newsletter
JUBLEE 2025
Welcome to the August edition
of the NBCW Diocesan Link newsletter.
As we enter the summer holidays with good weather and time (hopefully) to relax why not consider reading a book you wouldn’t normally select.
I have put together a selection of books, with the images below, covering a variety of topics including suggestions received from others. For example, if you have an interest in what happen at Vatican II you could start reading John O’Malley’s Vatican I on papal infallibility, Vatican II the story of the councils or a traditionalist view on reclaiming Vatican II with Fr Blake Britton.
How about a hideaway for your private spiritual time? Have a look at Poustinia.
For some ideas about living prayerfully, read Jared Brock’s memoir.
Another suggestion is 90 Minutes in Heaven. Tom Wright is good for commentaries on scripture, Paul and hope.
How about visiting some of our Tiny Churches?
Other recommendations include Chasing the Dragon, an inspiring book set in Hong Kong and Spiritual Direction which follows two of Nouwen’s long-time students who have supplemented his course with his unpublished writings.
When you read something you enjoy, tell others. Share with your family or friends, or add a comment to this blog.

The strength to persevere, the courage to speak out, the
faith to believe.' Sr Joan Chittister OSB
God's Smuggler by Brother Andrew is a great book to read, about 'Brother Andrew' who spent many years smuggling millions of books into communist countries, His testimony, from non-believer to strongly motivated worker for Christ, is mind-blowing, especially how prayer clearly played such a huge role, making it all happen! The power of prayer is amazing!
